I bring a passion for craft and high performance building techniques to every project.
After 16 years with firms here in Portland Oregon, working on projects around the
country, I have shifted my focus full-time to the residential scale, in the state I love.
We live in exciting and challenging times, and we need our buildings to adapt.
Beauty, flexibility, health and performance are needed more than ever. I'll work with you to help understand your budget and priorities, no matter the size of your project.
I grew up on the shore of Lake Superior in Michigan's Upper Peninsula and trace many of my values in community and architecture to that beautiful place. There I learned a reverence for the landscape, natural materials and a humility concerning our place in the natural world.
My approach to design has been shaped by my love for woodworking and construction, and experimenting with metal and concrete. While family life now limits my hobby mostly to furniture and toys, I have renovated two homes, built one kitchen from scratch and poured many a failed concrete countertop. No matter how large, my projects have always reflected the lessons I have learned in a garage woodshop. Now I can indulge my passion for talking to people about their house projects full-time, and occasionally make something from my salvaged wood collection.
